Pilates! A Gentle Formula to a Strong Body DVD Review

Renowned Pilates expert Risa Sheppard creator of the Sheppard Method released a new DVD called Pilates! A Gentle Formula to a Strong Body.  The DVD is 60 minutes and retails for $19.95 you can purchase it at www.sheppardmethod.com.  The Sheppard Method of Pilates has been described as a classic form of Pilates that speaks to the body.  In this DVD, Risa has divided the sessions into two thrity minute mat workout sessions, one for the beginner and one for the intermediate.  Each 30 minute workout provides the flexibility, strength and movement that enable the viewer to discover their own personal perfection from the inside out.  It is a feel good and challenging workout that if done 30 minutes a day, 3 times a week will strengthen the body at its core, improve how one feels, and provide the desired body results.  Risa's gentle instruction connects with the viewer and speaks to the body.  The moves are precisely demonstrated and easily explained.

Pilates, by definition, is a gentle workout that is meant to be done with grace and precision.  It makes one feel like a dancer, look and feel great, and move in a body that is flexible, strong and toned.  Risa, who has been teaching Pilates for over 30 years, exemplifies just that.  Risa still does personal training and private classes in her Southern California studios.  She also certifies Pilates instructors in The Sheppard Method.  One of her long time celebrity clients is the talented Reba McIntyre.

I have done both of the 30 minutes workouts two times each.  I consider myself to be more of a beginner when it comes to pilates.  But I am able to do the intermediate workout except for a few of the more advanced moves.  Risa has a very calm and easy to follow teaching style.  I like her work.  This is the first time I have done any of her DVDs but I have quickly become a fan.

Risa Sheppard is a Los Angeles native.  She is a graduate of UCLA and has extensive training in Neuropsychiatry and creative movement.  She began her Pilates training in the 1970s under the legendary Pilates master, Ron Fletcher, who studied under Joseph Pilates.  She has also worked with classic masters jack LaLanne and Richard Simmons.  Risa owns 2 Sheppard Method Pilates studios in Los Angeles in addition to her work at the studios, Risa gives seminars tin Pilates theory to fitness trainers and physical therapists nationwide.
