Judith Miller's The Brickmaker's Bride

About the book:

Bestselling Author Judith Miller Debuts Historical Series Set in West Virginia
Yearning for a fresh start, Ewan McKay travels with his aunt and uncle from northern Scotland to West Virginia, promising to trade his skills in the clay business for financial assistance from his uncle Hugh.  Hugh purchases a brickmaking operation from a Civil War widow and her daughter, but it's Ewan who gets the business up and running again.  Ewan seeks help from Laura, the former owner's daughter, and he feels a connection with her, but she's being courted by another man---a lawyer with far more social clout and money than Ewan.  Besides, Ewan has resolved he'll focus on making the brickmaking operation enough of a success that he can become a partner in the business and be able to afford to bring his sisters over from Scotland.
But when Hugh signs a bad business deal, all Ewan's hard work may come to naught.  As his plans begin to crumble, Laura reveals something surprising.  She and her mother may have a way to save the brickworks, and in turn Ewan may have another shot at winning Laura's heart.

The Daughter of Highland Hall

About the book:

The Daughter of Highland Hall || Book 2, Edwardian Brides (Waterbrook Multnomah, October 2014)
What if the title, the estate, the life of security and splendor . . . what if it isn't enough?
Strong-willed and beautiful, debutante Katherine Ramsey feels ready to take the London social season by storm, and she must.  Her family estate, Highland Hall, has been passed to older male cousin Sir William Ramsey, and her only means of securing her future is to make a strong debut and find a proper husband.  With her all-knowing and meddling aunt as a guide, Katherine is certain to attract suitors at the lavish gatherings, sparkling with Great Britain's elite.
When a shocking family scandal sidelines Katherine, forcing her out of the social spotlight, she keeps a low profile, volunteering with the poor in London's East End.  Here Katherine feels free from her predictable future, and even more so as a friendship with medical student Jonathan Foster deepens and her faith in God grows.  But when Katherine is courted anew by a man of wealth and position, dreams of the life she always thought she wanted surface again.  Torn between tradition and the stirrings in her heart for a different path, she must decide whom she can trust and love---and if she will choose a life serving others over one where she is served.

Chic-a-peas Review

Health Conscious Friends Launch Perfect Crunchy Snack

Cooking “accident” inspires new product, Chic-a-peas

New York, NY (July 21, 2014) - When entrepreneurs David Levi and Darren Shlisky reheated leftovers a few years ago, they had no idea that one small cooking misstep would result in a different career path for both of them.  Levi and Shlisky, both lifelong fans of Mediterranean food, had some leftover chickpeas from a dinner out the night before, and they accidentally left them in the oven a smidgen too long.  The result was a crunchy (albeit slightly burned) and very tasty chickpea—and after a year of refining and perfecting the recipe, Chic-a-peas was born as a new snack foods company in 2013.

Chic-a-peas come in two flavors, Sea Salt and Falafel.   Sold in 3 oz., resealable pouches, the Sea Salt flavor is made from simply chickpeas, a touch of oil and sea salt.  Falafel flavored Chic-a-peas contain chickpeas, a dash of oil, garlic powder, onion powder, sea salt and other spices.  Chic-a-peas are high in fiber and protein, containing 5 grams of fiber and 6 grams of protein per 110 calorie serving.

“We love food and we love being healthy.  It’s really that simple.  We’ve always questioned the ingredients in ‘healthy snacks’ that contain a bunch of ingredients that are hard to pronounce.  Ultimately that’s why we created this truly delicious and healthy snack,” said Levi.

Chic-a-peas are distributed primarily on the east coast and can be found in markets across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Long Island, New Jersey and Connecticut.  Each 3 oz. pack retails for $3.99 and can also be purchased online at  The duo will expand distribution Nationwide throughout 3rd and 4th quarter of 2014 and into 2015.

Chic-a-peas are a great road trip or office snack, are perfect as a salad topper, straight out of the bag or in any recipe that needs a natural dose of added crunch.  Loved by kids and adults alike, the product has been flying off shelves in the northeast.

“The response to our product has been phenomenal,” said Shlisky.  “We have more products, sizes and flavors in development and we’re encouraged to keep moving forward with this very unique snack.”

My Review - I really like these.  I put them on my salads.  They give me the fiber and protein and crunch that I am searching for.  I love that they are very healthy and contain nothing harmful to your health.  I enjoy both varieties and I am looking forward to more varieties coming out soon.

About Chic-a-peas LLC:  Founded in 2013 by David Levi and Darren Shlisky, Chic-a-peas are crispy, baked chickpeas that are a perfect on-the-go healthy snack made with the most simple ingredients possible.  Sold in stores across the Northeastern United States and online, Chic-a-peas will soon be expanding distribution nationwide.  Check out more information online at

Citizen Book Review

Citizen (Kregel Books, October 2014)
For Rob Peabody, the young pastor at a mega-church in southern USA, the realization that his faith had little real connection with the world around him meant that something had to change.  He redirected his church towards the poor on their doorstep and then took the larger step of moving to the UK to establish the missional fellowship ‘Awaken’.
In Citizen he outlines the Kingdom-centered identity that is given to followers of Jesus.  It’s a wake-up call to the church in the West. Jesus’ death and resurrection initiates and invites people into a life of so much more than the status quo.  God is re-building, re-newing, and re-creating that which is broken and marred by sin, and he is doing this – setting things right in the world – through Jesus.  As citizens of the Kingdom, we have been saved and set apart for this work.  We have a new allegiance, a changed identity, and a new mission as we seek to establish the rule of God on earth as it is in Heaven.
Find out more here.
Previously the lead campus pastor at an American mega-church, Rob Peabody is now director of the Awaken Movement who left his church in the Texan Bible-belt to start and lead a Fresh Expression of church seeking to engage unreached 20's and 30's in northeast London.

My Review - I have a tough time identifying with this book.  I feel encouraged and ready to get moving but I am not sure where God wants me to go.  I am ready to take on the challenge.  This is a well written book.  It does light a fire in me and gives me the desire to change the world.  I am happy I read it but it has opened up a lot of questions in me that I am now searching for the answers to.  I do recommend this book.  It will inspire you.
