Chic-a-peas Review

Health Conscious Friends Launch Perfect Crunchy Snack

Cooking “accident” inspires new product, Chic-a-peas

New York, NY (July 21, 2014) - When entrepreneurs David Levi and Darren Shlisky reheated leftovers a few years ago, they had no idea that one small cooking misstep would result in a different career path for both of them.  Levi and Shlisky, both lifelong fans of Mediterranean food, had some leftover chickpeas from a dinner out the night before, and they accidentally left them in the oven a smidgen too long.  The result was a crunchy (albeit slightly burned) and very tasty chickpea—and after a year of refining and perfecting the recipe, Chic-a-peas was born as a new snack foods company in 2013.

Chic-a-peas come in two flavors, Sea Salt and Falafel.   Sold in 3 oz., resealable pouches, the Sea Salt flavor is made from simply chickpeas, a touch of oil and sea salt.  Falafel flavored Chic-a-peas contain chickpeas, a dash of oil, garlic powder, onion powder, sea salt and other spices.  Chic-a-peas are high in fiber and protein, containing 5 grams of fiber and 6 grams of protein per 110 calorie serving.

“We love food and we love being healthy.  It’s really that simple.  We’ve always questioned the ingredients in ‘healthy snacks’ that contain a bunch of ingredients that are hard to pronounce.  Ultimately that’s why we created this truly delicious and healthy snack,” said Levi.

Chic-a-peas are distributed primarily on the east coast and can be found in markets across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Long Island, New Jersey and Connecticut.  Each 3 oz. pack retails for $3.99 and can also be purchased online at www.chicapeas.com.  The duo will expand distribution Nationwide throughout 3rd and 4th quarter of 2014 and into 2015.

Chic-a-peas are a great road trip or office snack, are perfect as a salad topper, straight out of the bag or in any recipe that needs a natural dose of added crunch.  Loved by kids and adults alike, the product has been flying off shelves in the northeast.

“The response to our product has been phenomenal,” said Shlisky.  “We have more products, sizes and flavors in development and we’re encouraged to keep moving forward with this very unique snack.”

My Review - I really like these.  I put them on my salads.  They give me the fiber and protein and crunch that I am searching for.  I love that they are very healthy and contain nothing harmful to your health.  I enjoy both varieties and I am looking forward to more varieties coming out soon.
