Betty Crocker 5-Minute Microwave Brownie Pan Review

Do you love brownies?  I do!  I love brownies but I hate heating up the house in the summer to bake them.  I just discovered the Betty Crocker Store sells a 5-Minute Microwave Brownie Pan

Now you can enjoy delicious brownies in five minutes! Use your favorite box mix or try the recipe that's included with the purchse of the pan and start from scratch. The Nordic Ware 5-minute Microwave Brownie Pan is freezer to microwave to table ready. It's oven safe to 400°. It's the perfect size pan to make brownies, cornbread or cake in your microwave. Yes, you really can bake in your microwave!

I'm going to have to get one of these pans.  My mom will want one too once she hears about it.  We live in Florida and it's too hot to heat up the oven every time we want fresh, hot brownies.  This is going to be a hit.  I'm so glad that I discovered this wonderful pan!

Review

I received a $75 gift card code to order a pair of glasses from 39dollarglasses.com.  I have a sort of round face so I browsed and found a pair of glasses that I thought would look good on my face.  I have been wearing glasses since I was in the fourth grade.  It took me a while to figure out that round glasses are not for me.  But once I found the style that I liked I stuck to it.

I mainly wear contacts but I have to have glasses on hand for when my contacts are out, like at night before bed and when my eyes are tired.  I chose the Trapani Eyeglasses in coffee.  It's super easy to order, you just select the frame you want and then follow through with your prescription and what type of lenses you want.  I added the single vision full time wear lenses and the anti reflective coating for $24.95 which is helpful for driving and working on the computer.  The total for my order was $68.90.  So the gift card covered my purchase.  You get a free case for your glasses as well which always comes in handy.  I also received a little screwdriver with my order.

I love my new glasses.  I have been wearing them more often than I wore my old ones.  They are so cute.  They really fit my face.  If you're not sure what shape to get they have a helpful tool on the side that shows a person with a similar face shape wearing the glasses that you are looking at.  I haven't ever ordered glasses online before and did not know that it would be so easy and affordable.  When I go to the eye doctor and buy glasses they can be very expensive.  This is an easy and affordable alternative.  The shipping was fast too.  I had my new glasses in 7 days.  I was pleasantly surprised with how fast it was to get these awesome new glasses.

39dollarglasses.com has a very nice selection of glasses to choose from.  You can choose plastic eyeglassesmetal eyeglasses, rimless eyeglasses, semi-rimless eyeglasses, kids eyeglasses and more.

Ten Tips and Tricks to Get Your Kids to Eat More Vegetables

It's hard to get our children to eat vegetables.  I don't know if you have a hard time with this as well or if it's just me.  I have tried what seems like every trick in the book and I have come up with a list of ten things that may help you with this common problem.  These tricks work best for us but I'm sure your children may be different than our when it comes to eating vegetables.

1.  Give Your Children a Choice - Ask them if they want spinach or lettuce for example.  Let them make the choice of which vegetable they will have with their meal.  When they help with the decision they are more likely to enjoy the vegetable with their meal.

2.  Take Your Children to the Grocery Store With You - Bring them with you to the grocery store.  Walk through the produce department and get familiar with the different kinds of vegetables.  There are so many to choose from get some new ones and they them out.

3.  Hide Vegetables in Other Foods - You can cut up veggies really small and hide them in other foods like mac n cheese.  This really works with children that just refuse to eat any vegetables.

4.  Put Cheese on Them - Cheese on vegetables is always a great idea.  Who doesn't love cheese?  We love cheese and when we put it on vegetables it makes them much easier to eat.  Cheese on cauliflower, broccoli, peas, green beans, etc...  What a wonderful way to get your vegetables eaten.

5.  Dips Are Great For Raw Vegetables - Celery, carrots, cucumbers and tomatoes are great with dips.  A good dip will help the vegetables to down.  The dips are so good that you'll forget you are eating vegetables.

6.  No Dessert Until You've Eaten Your Veggies - We have a rule, eat your veggies with your meal or you will not get any dessert.  It works.  Believe me if you want to have your dessert you will eat your veggies.

7.  Let Them Help In The Preparation - Kids love to help out in the kitchen.  I let them help wash the veggies and put them into salads and other dishes.  It's a fun way to spend time together and get familiar with vegetables.

8.  Cooked or Raw - Sometimes a raw carrot is not wanted but a cooked carrot is.  Try each vegetable cooked and raw to find out which way your child prefers to eat it.  I do not like raw broccoli but I love it cooked.  I'm sure each child has a raw favorite and a cooked favorite.

9.  Trial and Error - Just keep trying out different veggies until you find the ones that your children enjoy.  You will eventually find something that they like.  Just keep trying and don't give up.

10.  Have Fun - Don't make it a bad thing, enjoy eating your veggies.

I hope that these tips inspire you to keep trying to get your children to eat their veggies.  It's not easy but it's worth it in the end.  We all want healthy, well rounded children.  Just be persistent and work hard and you will find vegetables that your children will eat and enjoy.

Cool, Calm and Collected

Growing up I had my own personal sense of style.  I liked to wear clothes that were hip and stylish.  Our son has his own person sense of style.  He likes to be cool, calm and collected.  He helps me shop for his clothes.  He likes to be classic and not trendy.  While the other kids are wearing the newest fads he is wearing what he likes whether or not it's the cool thing to wear.

One example of what he likes to wear is a nice pair of longer shorts with a polo shirt.  It's almost as if he has a uniform for school, but in our area we don't wear uniforms.  He loves the classic look of that sort of outfit.  Pretty much he takes after his Dad when it comes to style.  Dad wears his own personal style and our son will take that and make it his own.

I love that our son loves to be unique when it comes to his own personal sense of style.  He is not a clone.  JC Penney offers a lot of great deals on clothes that he loves to wear.  We shop at the mall on special occasions and when we do our son always wants to go to JC Penney.  We can agree on that store because it has prices that we can afford and clothes that our son wants to wear.

Since it's summer now our son wears board shorts and tank tops a lot.  He likes colorful board shorts with a plain tank top.  He loves flip flops and sneakers, but in the summer it's mainly flip flops for him.  He likes his feet to be free.  He is not afraid to wear bright colors or colors that others tend to see as feminine like pink or red.  We allow him to be free with his clothing choices as long as they are not offensive to others.

It is really nice to have your own individual sense of style.  No one wants to be a clone of another person.  Clothing is a good way to express individuality.  It's always fun to shake things up a bit.  I know that when I have clothes that I love on, I feel good.  It's wonderful to be able to express yourself with your clothing choices.  Style is a very personal thing and should be expressed by each and every individual.  I am so happy to have a son that is expressive with his personality and his clothing choices.

Peanut Butter & Co. Review & Giveaway Ends 8/10/11 at 7PM EST

Peanut Butter & Co sent me two varieties to sample and review.  I received the Crunch Time and the Dark Chocolate Dreams.  I love peanut butter but other than creamy and crunchy I haven't ever really had any different kinds.  I was excited to try these two and see if I liked them.  I tried the Crunch Time first.

Crunch Time

Our great-tasting all-natural peanut butter just got even better! We've reformulated Crunch Time so that it is now in the No-Stir Natural style. We've added a little bit of palm fruit oil (containing zero cholesterol and zero trans fats) to keep the peanut oil from separating. This means no more stirring the oil back in! Made of peanuts blended with great big pieces of chopped peanuts, a little bit of salt, and a little bit of cane juice for sweetness, this delicious no-stir version brings you closer to the peanut butter of your childhood without the high fructose corn syrup and the hydrogenated oil!

It sells for $5 on their website.  I really enjoyed this.  I normally like creamy peanut butter but on occasions I prefer the crunchy.  I had this on toast first.  It's so good.  My family and I really enjoyed this peanut butter.

Next I tried the Dark Chocolate Dreams.

Dark Chocolate Dreams

Our all natural peanut butter blended with rich dark chocolate. It's like a peanut butter cup in a jar! Great on a sandwich, but just as wonderful spooned over ice cream, spread on fruits, or simply eaten out of the jar. It's equally delicious as an ingredient in your all-time favorite baked goodies like chocolate cake and bread pudding. It contains no cholesterol, no trans fats, no hydrogenated oils, and no high-fructose corn syrup. It is also gluten-free, certified vegan, and certified kosher pareve by the Orthodox Union. The shelf life is 6 months after opening, if stored in a cool, dry place.
I love peanut butter and I love chocolate so I knew I was going to love this kind.  It's amazing.  It really is like a peanut butter cup in a jar.  I had this on toast, it was good.  I had this on ice cream, it was amazing.  I had this with graham crackers, it was delicious.  I enjoyed it on everything.  We are in love with Dark Chocolate Dreams from Peanut Butter & Co.

I am so excited to have found new peanut butters that I love.  If you would like to enter to win 2 jars of peanut butter see the Giveaway below.

Rudi's Organic Bakery sent me two breads to review.  I received the Tuscan Roasted Garlic Artisan Bread and the Whole Grain Wheat English Muffins.  They arrived fresh and ready to enjoy.  I was surprised that bread could ship so nicely but it did.

Tuscan Roasted Garlic

Close your eyes and sniff. Now savor the taste of sweet garlic. Let’s eat on the terrace. Pass the olio, prego.

We enjoyed the Tuscan Roasted Garlic Bread by making sandwiches.  I made cold sandwiches and grilled cheese sandwiches with it and it was delicious either way.

I used the English Muffins to make breakfast sandwiches.  These muffins are very sturdy.  With an egg and cheese on them they are very filling.  I also ate them with jam and they are good that way too.

Biscoff Gourmet Review & Giveaway Ends 8/1/11 at 7 PM EST

Europe's favorite Cookie with Coffee
Biscoff is the name given to the traditional Speculoos biscuits in North America. It's derived from the combination of words Biscuit and Coffee, simply because their caramel flavor and crisp texture make these cookies the perfect accompaniment to a cup of coffee or espresso drink.

Speculoos are decorative caramelized biscuits and they were traditionally used to celebrate weddings and births, to teach history, and to chronicle war in Europe. Today Speculoos make up 20% of all the cookies eaten in Belgium and are still an important part of their culture.

Original Recipe Since 1932
Biscoff cookies are baked using the original recipe created in 1932. They are made with all natural ingredients, using no artificial colors or preservatives. They are vegan and contain 0 grams trans fat and 0 cholesterol per serving. All Biscoff cookies are baked in Lembeke, Belgium by Lotus Bakeries.

Introduction to the U.S. - The Airline
Successful in Europe for decades, Biscoff's popularity 'soared' when it was discovered by an airline food supplier during a trip to Belgium in 1984. Since then, Biscoff cookies have made air travel a little sweeter on nearly every domestic airline and most international carriers. As of 2010, airline passengers nibbled on 1.5 billion cookies, with Lotus Bakeries selling 3.3 billion Biscoff single and double cookies in Europe a year.

Ingredients: Wheat Flour, Sugar, Vegetable Oils (contains one or more of soy bean oil, sunflower oil, palm oil), Brown Sugar, Leavening (sodium bicarbonate), Soy Flour, Salt, Spice (cinnamon)

ALLERGEN Info: Contains wheat, soy.

Review
I received a package of the Biscoff Cookies and a jar of the Biscoff Spread to sample and review.  I tried the cookies right away.  They are delicious.  I ate them by themselves.  Then I had them with coffee and with milk.  They are amazing with coffee and with milk.  These cookies are my new favorite addiction.

Then I tried the spread.  I put it on toast.  The spread tastes just like the cookies but in a spread form.  It's amazing.  It's good on toast.  It's good on croissants.  It's good on anything.  It is great on fruit as well.  This spread is quickly becoming my new addiction.  I am so thankful to have been introduced to these fine products.  I can't wait to share them with everyone I know.

Tropical Traditions Coconut Peanut Butter Review & Giveaway Ends 7/31/11 EST 7 PM

Review

Organic Coconut Peanut Butter Tropical Traditions Organic Coconut Peanut Butter is made from organic peanuts and organic coconut. Two ingredients: nothing else! No fillers, no binders, no sweeteners, and no preservatives. The peanuts are 100% organic Valencia peanuts grown organically by family farmers in New Mexico and Texas. Grown in the dry climate of the southwestern United States, these peanuts are certified organic and free from aflatoxins. The dried coconut is certified organic coconut meat from the Philippines from coconuts that are grown with no fertilizers or pesticides. This premium dried coconut contains no additives or preservatives, and is not sweetened. Unlike most dried coconut on the market, our dried coconut products are not treated with sulfites to keep them white. Together, these premium organic roasted peanuts and the premium organic dried coconut are ground together to make a delicious and nutritious spread!

I received a jar of Organic Coconut Peanut Butter to sample and review.  This is the second time I have had the pleasure of working with Tropical Traditions.  They are an amazing company.  I used the peanut butter to make the Chewy Peanut Butter Coconut Granola Bars.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Combine sugar, peanut butter, honey, butter and vanilla in a large bowl until well combined.
Stir in remaining ingredients until well combine. Mixture will be like very wet granola. Press into a Texas sheet pan* greased with palm shortening or coconut oil.
Bake 20 - 25 minutes or until edges are nicely browned. Run a thin butter knife along the edges and cut while still warm. Let cool in the pan before removing. Bars will be fragile while hot but will firm up as they cool. Enjoy!

This recipe is quick and easy.  We really enjoyed these granola bars.

Honey Ridge Farms Review & Giveaway Ends 7/30/11 at 7 PM EST

About Us

A Family Business
We believe honey is nature's best and most delicious sweetener. That's why we founded Honey Ridge Farms in 2004. We are located in Brush Prairie, WA and provide high-quality, all-natural specialty gourmet honeys and honey-based specialty foods.  We're part of a long line of beekeepers; in fact, our son is a fifth-generation beekeeper who works alongside his grandfather tending hives.  Our first artisan honey produced was Wild Blackberry from Washington and Oregon.
Today we offer a variety of single-floral source artisan honeys from the western United States, as well as other all natural honey-based gourmet foods. Our award-winning Balsamic Honey Vinegar is truly unique and delicious - offering aged balsamic-style vinegar made entirely from honey.  It's intriguingly complex flavor adds another dimension to salads, sauces and marinades.

We sell a wide selection of fruit and spiced honey crèmes, honey-based vinegars, grilling sauces and honey glazes.  You can buy our products from our website, from various online retailers, and at retail stores throughout the country.
Our Commitment to Quality

Honey Ridge Farms was built upon offering the highest quality and value in its specialty gourmet honeys. We are dedicated to sourcing these premium honeys by supporting local artisan beekeepers from several states.

We now offer three varieties of honey from the Pacific Northwest – Wild Blackberry, Star Thistle and Pumpkin Blossom. California varieties include Black Button Sage and Orange Blossom.
Our Challenge

Because of our dedication to the apiculture industry and our partnership with local beekeepers, Honey Ridge Farms donates a portion of our profits from our Balsamic Honey Vinegar to help fund research to promote bee colony health. Significant problems face the honey bee and beekeeping industries. Since one-third of our food source depends on honeybee pollination, funding research is essential to maintaining bee colony health.
We invite you to sign up for our email specials, monthly newsletter and new product news.

In 1961, south of Miami, Florida, Jose Costa, Sr. purchased his first 30 acres to farm vine-ripe tomatoes during the winter months.  As he searched for a summer crop option, Jose entertained a very unique idea: growing Calamondin oranges.  Little did Jose know that this exotic citrus from China and the Philippines would provide a novel summer crop.

Within a short time, operations expanded and demand steadily increased.  In 1973, Costa Farms purchased property in the Dominican Republic to grow young plant material.  This investment in quality control underlined Costa Farms' dedication to high-grade products and dependable supply -- right from the beginning.

Success in the Indoor Houseplant Division led to the continued expansion of operations over the next two decades.  By the time that the Bedding Plant Division was added to the Costa Farms' lineup, the company had attracted the biggest retailers on both regional and national levels.

Today, Costa Farms is a third generation, family owned business that globally stretches over 3,500 acres and employs 2,800 people.  Along with thriving indoor houseplant and bedding plant divisions, Costa Farms operates merchandising and transportation companies as part of its infrastructure, with operations domestically in South Florida and North Carolina, and abroad in the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and Far East.

Review
I received two big boxes from Costa Farms.  I was so excited to open them and find out what they sent me.  I received several plants from them.  They were packaged very nicely.  Each plant was wrapped up so the soil didn't spill out.  I am very impressed with the shipping.  They wrapped each plant cautiously and each of them arrived in perfect condition.  I really did not know that plants could be shipped and kept in such great shape.

Plant Features:
The Boston fern is the quintessential decorative fern. It is the original fern used during the Victorian Era to decorate inside the home as well as outside on wrap-around porches. Like other ferns, the Boston fern enjoys high humidity and consistently moist soil. This plant is a favorite among interiorscapers since it lends any area a lush and rich look.

The Boston Fern is beautiful on my parent's from porch.  They have other plants out there but this fern really stands out.  It's very pretty!  Once my Mom saw it she said she had to have it.  So I gave it to them.  They are in love with the Boston Fern.

Plant Features:
Anthuriums are subtropical favorites with varieties growing in such diverse areas as South America and the Pacific. They are perfect as cut flowers or as potted plants in varying sizes. They are popular around Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and Easter. To get them to flower continuously, place in a filtered light location and fertilize during the growing season. The plant should be kept clean of all yellow or decaying leaves.

I received two of these.  They are simply beautiful.  I put them on the back steps.  They brighten up the back porch.  I just make sure they get enough water and keep them looking nice.  I haven't ever had this type of plant before.  I am so impressed with the ease of care and the beauty this plant brings.

Spathiphyllum [Peace Lily]
Plant Features:
Spathiphyllum, also known as the Peace Lily, is a very popular indoor houseplant. In the warmest parts of Florida you will find Spathiphyllum in the landscape; it performs best in the shade with protection from wind and temperatures below 55 degrees.

I received two of these as well.  They are lovely.  I really think the air is cleaner with these in my office at work.  All my co-workers have commented on how nice they look.  They are easy to take care of.  The Peace Lily is a wonderful addition to any room.

Zamioculcas [ZZ Plant]

Plant Features:
The Zamioculca, also known as the ZZ plant, is one of the strongest plants on the market. Frequently found in low-light locations such as malls, and any areas of the home or office where minimal light shines through, the ZZ is a true survivor.
I put this one in our bedroom, it's beautiful.  It's an air purifier.  I really like this, it's so simple and beautiful.  I haven't ever had this plant before, but I truly love it.

Plant Features:
Ironically, Lucky Bamboo is actually not a bamboo at all, but rather a Dracaena! Lucky Bamboo is the primary plant recommended for improving Feng Shui and for creating spaces where you feel safe and more energized to meet the demands of today's high-pressured world. Keep water fresh by changing it every week, and always keep water levels at approximately an inch from the base of the canes. Lucky Bamboo prefers plenty of indirect sunlight and room temperatures at 65-70°. Although opinions differ on feeding, your Lucky Bamboo is a living organism, so it makes sense to occasionally add a mild solution to the water such as African Violet fertilizer. Since growth can be controlled by feeding, small amounts of fertilizer will keep the plant at a manageable size.

I also received this plant.  I love it!  I put it in the kitchen.  It really brightens up the room.  I think it does help put me in a better mood just by seeing it there.
